They think that the more folks see Washington taking no action to create jobs, the better their chances in the next election. The Astrology of November features Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Mercury. One reason that Mercury is highlighted this month is that the planet of communication is conjunct Venus and parallel to Pluto at the time of the Scorpio New Moon from the end of last month that characterizes this current monthly cycle.

Mercury is conjunct Venus nearly all month long before turning retrograde on the 23rd, one day before another exciting New Moon that is also a Solar Eclipse. Inequality is back in the news, largely thanks to Occupy Wall Street, but with an assist from the Congressional Budget Office. And you know what that means: It’s time to roll out the obfuscators!

Anyone who has tracked this issue over time knows what I mean. Whenever growing income disparities threaten to come into focus, a reliable set of defenders tries to bring back the blur. Think tanks put out reports claiming that inequality isn’t really rising, or that it doesn’t matter. Pundits try to put a more benign face on the phenomenon, claiming that it’s not really the wealthy few versus the rest, it’s the educated versus the less educated.

So what you need to know is that all of these claims are basically attempts to obscure the stark reality: We have a society in which money is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few people, and in which that concentration of income and wealth threatens to make us a democracy in name only.

Under Romney's plan, future retirees would no longer get Medicare instead they'd get a subsidy, the size of which would depend on their income. They would then be able to spend that subsidy on various private plans or a government option. He calls the public option "traditional Medicare," but that's just a rhetorical device. Because Medicare would not longer be a single payer system, it would become less efficient and would be in a worse position to keep costs down. Meanwhile, the fact that beneficiaries would be getting a subsidy rather than insurance means that either (a) their share of medical costs would grow or (b) public health care spending would grow even faster than before. Either way, the idea is a stinker.

As the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities says:

Despite claims to the contrary, it likely would shift substantial costs to beneficiaries rather than protect them from such cost increases, could lead to the demise of traditional Medicare over time rather than preserve it, and likely would produce few savings.

Also on Team Newt is AFPC Vice President Ilan Berman and AFPC Senior Fellow for Asian Studies Stephen Yates, a former staffer for Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney's top Middle East advisor David Wurmser is also part of the Newt campaign advisory team, along with former President Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor Robert McFarlane, Reagan-era National Security Council (NSC) senior directors Norman Bailey and Ken deGraffenreid, Reagan-era Undersecretary of State for security assistance, science, and technology Bill Schneider, former CIA Director James Woolsey, and others.
